To gain admission to Turanga Ararau you need to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. To gain entry to the programme you will need to have literacy and numeracy skills at step 3 or above on the assessment tool and at least a level 2 qualifications or equivalent experience as well as a demonstrated commitment to work in the industry.
This programme is designed to help you gain employment in the outdoor recreation industry and related industries such as working in pest control, Defence Force, Search and Rescue and conservation. On successfully completing this programme you will be awarded the New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Recreation Level 3

Start Date: It is planned to run this programme twice in 2018 at the beginning of the year and mid
year
Hours: Hours will generally be from 8.30am to 3.30pm with an hour for lunch.
The on job work experience component will follow industry hours so you can expect to be on the job working at 8am am and finishing at 5.00 pm from Monday to Friday. You will also need to be available for overnight camps.
On successfully completing this programme you will have the qualification, skills and knowledge to
- New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Experiences Level 4
- New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Recreation Level 4
Gain entry level paid employment or work as a volunteer in the outdoor recreation or Outdoor Adventure Guiding Sectors. You will also be able to operate safely and competently in low-risk, low technical outdoor environments while undertaking roles such as Pest Control, Track Maintenance, Defence Force Personnel, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue Personnel and Rangers.
Once you are in employment you can continue to upskill and complete industry qualifications through the Industry Training Organisation, Skills Active Aotearoa with the support of your employer.
