To gain admission to Turanga Ararau applicants will need to be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. To gain entry to the programme and the industry students need to be 16 years or older and, as a minimum, have level 2 or above literacy and numeracy skills. in addition and in respect of the hazardous nature of tree felling operations students admitted to this programme will also need to be: Be drug drug free and pass a pre-course and planned regular drug tests. Be adequately fit enough to perform tree felling activities. Have completed all pre-requisite unit standards from the programme prior to commencing tree felling activities.

Graduates will have industry relevant skills and knowledge needed to carry out day to day operational functions within the forest harvesting leading to advancement within the industry and to higher learning acquired on or off the job. For those seeking further advancement in the industry the National Certificate in Forest Operations Advanced (Level 4) is a natural progressions ensuring sustainable and meaningful employment in the industry in a supervisory capacity as a harvester.
